Meet Mandee.
The person behind Your Home, by Mandee.
A creative eye, a house full of kids, and a love for making spaces feel like home.
Hi, I'm Mandee! The face behind Our Modern Home, a mom of four, and someone who's pretty much always thinking about what room I can change next.
I've had a creative eye for as long as I can remember. While I didn't take the traditional route of becoming an interior designer, design has always been a huge part of my life. I spent over a decade working professionally in creative direction and design, overseeing everything from branding and large-scale creative campaigns to projects in the music industry, retail environments, and corporate spaces.
That experience taught me how to look at the bigger picture, think creatively, work within budgets, and bring a vision to life. And somewhere along the way, I realized that the projects I loved most were the ones where I could completely transform how a space looked and felt.
Good design doesn't have to cost a fortune.
If you've followed Our Modern Home for any amount of time, you probably already know that I have a slight addiction to Facebook Marketplace, thrift stores, and yard sales. I love the thrill of finding something unique, giving an old piece new life, or discovering something that looks way more expensive than it actually is.
I've spent years designing and transforming spaces in our own home, often working with limited budgets and figuring out creative ways to get the look I want without spending a fortune.
But I'm also not afraid to splurge when it makes sense. I believe the best spaces are a mix of high and low. Knowing where to save, where to invest, and how to make everything work together is a huge part of my approach to design.
And honestly, sometimes the $40 Marketplace find ends up being my favorite thing in the room.
Designing for real life.
As a mom of four, I know firsthand that a home needs to do a whole lot more than just look pretty.
It needs comfortable furniture, hidden storage, practical layouts, and materials that can handle the chaos of everyday life. But it should also feel warm, inviting, and lived in. I don't believe having kids means giving up on having a beautiful home. You just have to be a little more thoughtful about how you design it.
My personal style leans mid-century modern, eclectic, and a little bold. I love mixing colors, textures, vintage pieces, and unexpected details. But one of my favorite parts of design is getting to explore a completely different side of my creative brain.
Not everyone wants a chartreuse sofa or an orange ceiling, and I get that!
I love working with different aesthetics and helping people figure out what feels right for them. That being said, I will encourage you to take a few risks. Maybe it's a color you wouldn't normally consider, an unexpected piece of furniture, or mixing styles you didn't think belonged together.
Sometimes the best design decisions happen when you step just a little outside your comfort zone.
From Our Modern Home to Your Home.
After more than a decade in my corporate creative career, I stepped away from that chapter to spend more time raising my family and pursuing the creative work I'm most passionate about.
Over the years, I've built Our Modern Home into a community where I share our home projects, affordable design finds, DIY transformations, and the reality of creating a home around four kids.
What started as sharing the changes we were making to our own home turned into something much bigger. I found myself connecting with people who loved the same things I did, answering design questions, sharing recommendations, and helping others find inspiration for their own spaces.
And eventually, I realized I wanted to take that one step further.
Your Home by Mandee is my way of bringing everything I've learned together. My professional creative experience, my love for design, my obsession with a good bargain, and my belief that everyone deserves a home they genuinely love.
Whether you're starting with an empty room, trying to make what you already own work better, or just feeling completely overwhelmed by all the decisions, I'm here to help you figure it out.
I don't want to create a home that looks like mine. I want to help you create one that feels like yours.
One that functions for your life, reflects your personality, and makes you feel proud every time you walk through the door.
And if I can convince you to take one little design risk along the way? Even better.
